Dr. Tracey Stokes is a board-certified plastic surgeon in private practice and co-founder of eSSe Plastic Surgery in Fort Lauderdale, FL. After graduating with honors from Harvard University for her undergraduate education, Cornell University for Medical School, and Duke University for general surgery and plastic surgery residency, Dr. Stokes completed a fellowship in Aesthetic and Oculoplastic Surgery at Paces Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, GA. She and her husband, Dr. Ari Silverstein, a urologist, then returned to her home state of Florida to set up practice and start a family. Dr. Stokes and Dr. Laura Sudarsky opened eSSe Plastic Surgery as a state of the art facility where compassionate care is provided TO women BY women. Dr. Stokes has always had a special interest in breast reconstruction because her mother had breast cancer when she was 40 years old. Dr. Stokes was a primary investigator in the XPAND and XPAND II clinical trials leading to FDA clearance of the AeroFrorm tissue expander in December 2016. Unfortunately, in March 2016 at the age of 67, her mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and tested BRCA1+. Dr. Stokes also tested BRCA1+ and in 2017 began her journey of risk reducing surgery. She underwent a prophylactic hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomysurgery and is in the middle of staged prophylactic breast surgery. She is eager to share her experience as the doctor, as the patient, and as the caregiver to help women like herself with a genetic predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer and to make scientific advances in this field for her daughters Sydney (9) and Sloane (6) and their generation.
